I prefer a one woman show.

May 13, 2020, shed light on the fact that fly fishing is an activity I prefer to do solo if I want my head in the right place to focus simply on fly fishing. This day was also one my absolute favorite family outings we have had to date! We are an adventurous family and nothing compares to time spent together. My husband took us to a beautiful spot up a dirt road, we had a great hike in exploring the land, small streams and eventually finding the spot we wanted. Our son took a stick and practiced his "fly fishing" as we sat on the edge of the water overlooking a gorgeous scene. My husband and I took turns fishing, talked about fish, technique and played with our son; it really was a perfect family outing.

Here's how I realized I need to fish on my own:
While casting all I could think about was hooking his beautiful little face
It's impossible for me to tune him out and focus on the task at hand
I will always choose playing with him OVER ANYTHING; so while I was fishing and I could hear my family laughing hysterically...I didn't want to be fishing, I wanted in on the fun
I never got into that calm head space
I never felt that moment where my cast was right
I couldn't observe the water, bugs and fish around me
I couldn't space on time because toddlers need to eat, poop and sleep and that schedule remained on the forefront of my mind

Fly fishing is a head space for me, and from what Ive learned for many others. So for now, fly fishing is a one woman show (or at least toddlerless and until quarentine's over also husbandless due to no childcare).
